Paige Kilgore– Instructor
Karen Hay – Instructor
Karen is a qualified dance teacher who graduated from the renowned Guildford School of Acting and Dance in England. In 1996, Karen discovered Pilates and trained with Body Control Pilates (BCP) in London, England, working with Helge Fisher, the co-founder of BCP, before founding her own successful studio in 1999 in South East England.
Karen relocated to Southern California with her husband and continues to pursue her passion for Pilates by extending her education with Body Arts and Science International’s (BASI) teacher training course.
Paula Vasin – Yoga Instructor
Paula is known for her calming and gentle approach to teaching yoga. She takes her clients on a journey into mindful awareness, breath focus and a balanced body through precise cues and visualizations. It is her heartfelt desire that each class brings joy in experiencing the human body or helps to remove the obstacles that separate us from that joy.
Paula has been practicing yoga for five years and instructing for three. She is certified in Yoga and Mat Science. In addition to her yoga certifications, she has also attained certificates in Kickboxing, Club Boxing, Exercise Science Fundamentals and Body Works. Teaching these modes of exercise has given her insight into injury prevention, and strength and flexibility applications through individualized yoga programs.
Always on a journey herself, Paula desires to inspire others to begin their own and to use their yoga practice as a tool to navigate through life.
Ellen Emmer – Instructor
Ellen’s love of Pilates began when she started training for her first marathon. She was in search of a method of aggressive cross-training and Pilates was the answer. Three marathons and two years of Pilates training later, Ellen made the life-changing decision to become a Pilates instructor.
Ellen trained at the John Garey Studio in Long Beach, California, where she benefited from their intense athletic approach. As a Pilates instructor, Ellen is committed to raising the bar for each of her clients on their own level of strength, flexibility and endurance.
Marilyn Koval – Instructor, Co-owner
Marilyn earned her Pilates Teacher Certification from Long Beach Dance Conditioning (LBDC) under Marie-Jose Blom-Lawrence in 2005 and Pilates for Pregnancy Certification from Fusion Pilates under Jennifer Gianni in 2006.
Prior to becoming a Pilates instructor, Marilyn had a career in Medical and Environmental Microbiology and has studied dance. It is this combination of science and dance training that Marilyn shares Pilates with a style that focuses on detail and appreciation of movement.
Kathryn Russell – Instructor, Co-owner
After Kathryn had taken Pilates classes for a few months, she was amazed to find that she wore her body differently. After dedicating more and more time to Pilates classes, she decided to leave her job in finance to become a certified Pilates instructor. Kathryn received her Pilates certification from Long Beach Dance Conditioning (LBDC) in 2002.
Kathryn taught Pilates in Sunset Beach, California, for two years before opening Viva Pilates Studio with Marilyn in 2006.
